STOMM!

Another piece of 2000AD production art from my cupboard, this one featuring Judge Dredd. I saw the film on Sunday and I liked it a lot, especially the slo-mo scenes. Prog #153, 23rd February 1980. Artist: Ron Smith. Colours: Tom Frame

  1. I liked the film too. I have the original art for this page, and, just for interest's sake, neither the 'GRRRAAAAARRHH', nor the 'Collect Part 2 of Your Hall of Heroes 2D Hologram Inside!' or the little Judge Dredd logo are on the original cover. Added in the production process: there's no sign of them being removed? The more you know.

    1. The artwork you hold would have originally had an acetate overlay with the type elements on it. This was then photographed at the repro house and supplied in the way you see above. A blue line version for Tom Frame to paint the colours onto and a black line acetate sheet that lays on top of that.

  2. Fascinating. It's interesting to see what they chose to put on the acetate and what was actually on the inked page; in raking light you can see the where the 'Collect Part 2...'was positioned on the artwork. Thanks for such a great blog, and so much nifty cool stuff on your main site too.
